Scanning is easy
Scanning with Metadefender is very easy. Once installed, the extension offers users the scan option when they right-click any file found online. This will initiate a direct scan which will analyze the file and give it the go-ahead if everything is in order. If a threat is detected, the extension will signal this so the user knows downloading that file isn’t a good idea. To access the extension, a small icon can be used as it appears on the browser toolbar area after installation. It will be on the right side of the address bar if there are no additional toolbars installed.
Complications may appear, but they are solvable
Blocking file hotlinks through JavaScript will result in Metadefender not being able to do its job. Instead of a scan result, users will be met with errors. This can be quite an impediment for Metadefender, so users are advised to be careful when downloading files that aren’t directly linked online. Metadefender also offers a solution for this problem in the form of their website. Those that encounter resistance while trying to quick scan a file can have it uploaded to the Metadefender website and scan it manually. This would mean that the file needs to be downloaded first, which kind of beats the purpose of scanning it in the first place, but at least there will be no confusion about the health of said file and if the user had downloaded infected content.
