But it looks that Microsoft’s chip detection system is not working properly. There have been several complaints saying that systems running older processors are also banned from getting updates.
Updates blocked on older devices
According to InfoWorld, posts on Tweakers have revealed that Windows updates were blocked on devices running on Intel Pentium Dual Core E5400 2.70GHz and Celeron J1900 processor. The error was identical to the one received by users of Windows 7 computers with the latest gen chipsets. The error said “Your PC uses a processor that is designed for the latest version of Windows. Because the process is not supported together with the Windows version that you are currently using, your system will miss important security updates.”
Graphics cards will also become banned?
It looks like Microsoft has also banned computers that are using an AMD Radeon RX480 graphics card, despite the fact that the company has specifically referred to CPUs in its restriction regarding running Windows 10 with the latest gen chipsets. Microsoft has not mentioned the graphics cards as unsupported in Windows 7 and all the company said was that “Because of how this support policy is implemented, devices that run the following Windows versions and that have a seventh generation or later generation processor may no longer be able to scan or download updates through Windows Update or Microsoft Update”. Microsoft still has to provide a statement about all these issues and, in the meantime, users whose computers aren’t getting updates anymore should try a third-party workaround for unlocking them until the company provides them with a fix.
