Windows Insiders need to wait a bit longer to get new more build features, but they have something else to keep them occupied: build 14959 issues. Every Windows 10 build brings its own dose of issues, that’s a known fact. Microsoft usually keeps track of the main problems, and lets users know about them in the build announcement post. However, things look differently in real life, as users are usually plagued by more problems than Microsoft originally warned them about. We wandered around Microsoft’s forums, and found a lot more issues than Microsoft originally mentioned. So, in this article, we’re going to tell you about these issues, and see if there’s a way to solve at least some of them. Keep reading.

Windows 10 build 14959 reported issues

It’s a tradition here at Windows Report to start our report articles with installation issues. It seems that build 14959 causes many installation problems, across all platforms. Some people complain they’re unable to finish the installation, some say they haven’t even received the build yet, while some Insiders encountered some more serious problems, like BSODs. Here’s what users said about installation problems on Microsoft’s forums:

“Am currently on build 14951 (stable), but neither of the two newer builds will install.  Dell i5 system.  Quite frustrating and time-consuming.  Have tried (and tried!) clean re-boot, no 3rd-party av issues.  Any help/advice gratefully accepted” “I am getting notified that there is an update available for Insider Preview 14959.  I am currently on Build 10.0.14946.1000.  However, when trying to update, I get the Error code 0x80070057.  For the record, I wasn’t able to update to the previous Build available either.  I am hoping to avoid resetting my phone, but I know that might be the only option.  Any other suggestions?  I am on the Fast ring, might try to wait until the next Slow ring update is available and switch to see if that works. “ “This time, I had another BSOD while upgrading to Build 14959. The system gave no information about the driver. Just the usual error, DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE… Since it was collecting the minidump, I thought I might check it later from the Minidump folder. But I was wrong. I was unable to locate the DMP in the Minidump folder. And there is no information about where the Minidump files are stored which are generated during a failed upgrade…”

The solutions to fix installation issues in Windows 10 builds are relatively well-known. Sometimes your antivirus software may conflict with the build, preventing its installing. If the installation fails, make sure you turn off your antivirus program, and try again. Additionally, you can reset the Windows Update process with the WUReset script. Even those who managed to install build 14959 without any problems, had their fair share of system-related issues. One user reports on the forums that he’s unable to connect to the Internet after installing Windows 10 build 14959. He said that he performed all possible diagnostic actions, and workarounds, but without any positive results. If you have the similar problems, check out our article about Wi-Fi issues in Windows 10, and you might find a solution. The problem with Wi-Fi is not the only Internet-related problem in build 14959. Namely, one user complains that he’s unable to play YouTube and Facebook videos in Microsoft Edge. Unfortunately, no one has a proper solution for this issue. It seems that Microsoft Edge problems are quite often in the recent builds. So, probably the best solution is to wait for Microsoft to solve these issues in the future releases. Another user says that none of the pointer devices on his laptop works after installing the latest build: SPONSORED As the user said, the solution for this problem is manually installing the build on your computer. To do that, you need to manually create the ISO file of build 14959, and install it regularly. We continue our reporting article with the OneDrive Desktop client. One Windows Insider says that the program crashes every time he tries to sign in. If you’ve experienced this bug as well, we recommend you to check our article on OneDrive problems in Windows 10. However, we cannot guarantee any of these solutions will work, because there’s no confirmed workaround yet. These are the biggest problems that bother PC users of Windows 10 build 14959. However, Insiders on Mobile have also experienced some issues. Perhaps the most serious problem is the one that reportedly ‘killed’ one user’s phone. He complained on the forums that the Windows Recovery Tool did enormous damage to his phone. Read the full post on Microsoft’s Community forum, and please help this Insider, if you have a valid solution. There are also some ‘smaller problems’, like the issue with Cortana, or the battery drain issue, that two Insiders recently reported:

“I m using build 14959 and cortana doesn’t respond to voice command, showing “thinking” and then crashes. What do I do?? Lumia 532 One of my Lumina 950’s is using about 3.6% of battery per hour after the last Insider update. The phone has 2 sims but one is turned off. I am not sure what to turn off and still have a phone that does what I want.  On the previous build it used about 2.2%  per hour and there are no changes that I made, as far as I know.”

That’s about all for our report article about the Windows 10 build 14959 problems. As you can see, this is one of the most troublesome recent builds.
